What is an Osteopathic Physician?
Osteopathic physicians can offer you more...
Did you know that Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) and Allopathic Physicians (M.D.) are the only types of complete physicians in the United States?
Both types of doctors are licensed to prescribe medication and perform surgery. Both types of doctors complete four years of basic medical education and after completing residency programs, they have the opportunity to choose to practice in a specialty area of medicine.
Both types of doctors must pass comparable state licensing examinations and they practice in fully accredited and licensed hospitals and medical centers. In addition, osteopathic physicians bring something extra to medicine:
- Osteopathic medical schools emphasize training students to be primary care physicians.
- Osteopathic physicians practice a holistic ("whole person") approach to medicine.
- Osteopathic physicians focus on preventive health care.
- Osteopathic physicians receive extra training in the musculoskeletal system.
- Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is incorporated in the training and practice of osteopathic physicians.
Dr. Rosen is an osteopathic physician offering you all the advantages of his specialized training. He treats the person who has the disease - not only the disease the person has.
